Tri-Valley Leaders Tour The Hottest Spot on Earth |
VTV President & CEO Tracy Farhad (second from left) and other Tri-Valley community leaders were left awe-struck following a tour of where the fusion ignition magic took place at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Those welcomed by tour guide Jamie King, Laser and Non-Ionizing Radiation Safety Program Manager include (from left) Scott Wilson and Nadine Horner (not pictured), Senior Advisors, Government and External Affairs; Michelle Henry, District Director for Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, along with her Field Representatives Alisa Horiike and Elaine Cortez-Schroth; Brook Witherspoon, Board President, Livermore Downtown, Inc.; and Ruby Lopez E.D. of Livermore Downtown Inc. Participants toured the brand new LEEDS Certified Gold Emergency Operations Center and felt well-protected after John Richards, Response and Support Division Leader, EMD., explained training procedures and preparations. But, for as tiny as the fusion target was, LLNL successfully created the ‘hottest spot on earth’ for a hot nano-second. Twice.

Pleasanton Chamber Workforce Development Survey |
In conversations with businesses, the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce often hears about the need for workers. Unemployment is low so there aren't many looking for work, yet companies still need more employees. How can this void be filled?
One way a business can become more effective at filling open jobs is to help educate local students about the career and job opportunities that are right here at home. To do this, the Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) is partnering with the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce to find businesses interested in their Career and Technical Education (CTE) program for local businesses and students. This program familiarizes students with local businesses – what they do, how they do it, and (most importantly) what skills are needed to become part of it – while giving businesses a chance to impart specific skills and education that will better prepare them for their career.
There are several reasons why your organization should consider participating in this program, including actively engaging in workforce development; creating a talent pipeline; providing industry-relevant training to future employees; greater community engagement that enhances the organization’s reputation; and fostering innovation and collaboration between schools, businesses, and other community stakeholders.
The Pleasanton Chamber would like to hear from you about your interest in this program. They have developed a short survey that will take less than three minutes to complete and they appreciate you taking the time to complete this survey and letting them know what level of interest, if any, your organization may have to participate in this CTE program.
