Ottawa – With Open Arms Ottawa Tourism invites Jeopardy! contestants to experience Winterlude Final Jeopardy! question about Ottawa proved a stumper OTTAWA, November 25, 2021—Ottawa Tourism is officially inviting two contestants from Tuesday night’s Jeopardy! show to visit Canada’s capital during Winterlude. Final Jeopardy! that night (in the category World Capitals) referenced Winterlude and skating on the Rideau Canal; “What is Ottawa?” was the correct question/answer but the contestants guessed “Paris” and “Amsterdam” instead.
“We want to show them what they might have missed,” says Michael Crockatt, President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism, “and open their eyes to the wonders of the world’s largest naturally frozen ice skating rink, the incredible flavours of BeaverTails, and the compelling stories told in some of our country’s best museums.”
Genesis Whitlock, a diversity and inclusion professional from Brooklyn, New York, and Amy Schneider, an engineering manager from Oakland, California, are each invited—with a guest of their choice—to spend 3 nights in Canada’s capital during Winterlude (February 4-21, 2022), including round-trip transportation, hotel accommodation, spending money, and select activities.
Winterlude is an epic winter celebration in Ottawa taking place over the first three weekends of February each year since 1979. Highlights include spectacular ice sculptures, a gigantic snow playground called Snowflake Kingdom, and the showcase activity, skating on the Rideau Canal Skateway (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), which offers 7.8km (4.8 miles) of free ice skating fun! Many other Winterlude activities—indoors and outdoors—highlight Canada’s cultural, artistic and culinary diversity and most are offered free of charge.
