July 5, 2019 We Heard the Challenge and We Accept!
The new City Council President and Tourist Development Council President, Scott Wilson, has called on Visit Jacksonville to put an emphasis on sports tourism and attract more youth sporting events and tournaments to our area. We are very encouraged by Council President Wilson’s focus on local tourism and consider him a great advocate for our industry, we are committed to working hard to rise up to his challenge. We also congratulate Mayor Curry as he kicks off a second term this week. We look forward to working together to elevate Jacksonville’s profile. Jacksonville to Host FSAE Annual Conference - Next week, for the first time, Jacksonville will be hosting the Florida Society of Association Executive's Annual Conference - the largest in the Association's history. Over 500 of Florida's association executives will be in attendance. This is an excellent opportunity to show off our city to decision makers from around the state and convince them to plan their future meetings here! #jaxarthunt Begins - Visit Jacksonville has partnered with innovative local artist and muralist Jason Tetlak for an interactive art project. The JAX ART HUNT kicks off Saturday, July 6. For the next 11 days, 20 pieces of a large mural created by Tetlak will be hidden in locations across the city for art lovers to find. Clues to the pieces will be found daily at Visit Jacksonville’s Instagram account @Visit_Jax. Once all the pieces are uncovered they will reveal a hidden message. Follow us on Instagram for updates. The Jacksonville Landing Update - This week, Mayor Curry told reporters the city will put out a request for proposals to determine the best future use for the property after demolition is completed at the end of 2019.
The city has contracted with Plant City-based D.H Griffin Wrecking Co Inc. to demolish the closed shopping center starting in September. City officials say the demolition should be complete by the end of December. More from The Daily Record.
