OAK MAKES THE MOVE   🛫 OAKLAND SAN FRANCISCO BAY AIRPORT

The airport of the East Bay has a new name: Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK).

The name change is an effort to create awareness of its convenient location in the Bay Area and increase air travel into Oakland, which would boost economic activity for the city and region. “We are proud to be a central gateway to the Bay Area, and we’re proud to embrace a name that reflects both our local roots and regional reach,” said Craig Simon, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. The renaming places Oakland at the front of the OAK brand while informing out-of-state travelers that Oakland is a convenient and logical starting point for visiting the San Francisco Bay Area. International service at OAK continues to grow, with the recent launch of nonstop flights to Los Cabos and Zacatecas bringing the total number of Mexican destinations to seven. OAK is operated by the Port of Oakland, which also oversees the Oakland seaport and 20 miles of East Bay waterfront. Be sure to check out www.iflyoak.com for departure and arrival information, airport maps, details about on-airport parking, shopping and dining and more.  Also: subscribe to OAK & About, the airport's excellent free e-news... highly recommended.
