BERKELEY'S A SOLEFUL CITY |
Berkeley is a city of walkable neighborhoods, from the Elmwood to Solano, Telegraph to Fourth Street, and more in between. How appropriate, then, that Berkeley's independent shoe stores are thriving and not getting "Zappoed." To celebrate Small Business Week 2025, the Berkeleyside article, Why people keep walking into Berkeley shoe stores instead of clicking online, shares how The Walk Shop, Elmwood Village Shoes, and Sole Terra Shoes create value for patrons through service, quality and experience while West Berkeley startup, Arris Composites, also supports foot health with carbon-fiber insoles that help people stay comfortable on their feet all day. The City of Berkeley’s #DiscoveredinBerkeley campaign spotlights local businesses; walk on over to the DiscoveredinBerkeley website and follow @DiscoveredinBerkeley on Instagram to learn more.

PULITZER-WINNING LYNN NOTTAGE PLAY "CRUMBS FROM THE
TABLE OF JOY" STAGING AT AURORA |
Staging now through May 25 at Aurora Theatre Company, Crumbs from the Table of Joy is a compelling play by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage and directed by Elizabeth Carter. Set in 1950, Crumbs from the Table of Joy follows the Crump family as they relocate from Pensacola, Florida, to Brooklyn, New York, after the death of the family matriarch. Through the eyes of 17-year-old Ernestine Crump, audiences witness the family's navigation through the complexities of race, religion, and societal expectations during a time of significant social change. The arrival of Aunt Lily, an outspoken, communist-leaning woman, further challenges the family's dynamics and beliefs.
"Lynn Nottage is one of the most significant American playwrights working today,” said Artistic Director Josh Costello. "We're honored to bring this early work of hers, showcasing all her insight and passion, to the Aurora stage. And I'm thrilled to welcome back director Elizabeth Carter." Tickets available here. |
