CREATURES FEATURED AT UC BOT GARDEN'S ANIMAL DAY |
Some say the the magnificent University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley is a "zoo for plants." Apt indeed, but on Sunday, Oct. 27, the Garden transforms into a zoo for animals, too. The Garden's annual Animal Day is a grand celebration of animals with drop-in experiences including interactive booths and displays, crafts, tours, live animals to see and touch, and more. Community critter partners Things That Creep, the Essig Museum of Entomology, and the Lindsey Wildlife Experience join in the fun. Animal Day festivities are free with Garden admission. The UC Botanical Garden is open daily, 10 to 5 (closed Tuesdays).

EPIC OCTOBER FOR GOLDEN BEARS |
October is a historic month for Cal Athletics, with the California Golden Bears hosting its first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference football game and ESPN's national College GameDay show on a magical college football Saturday. The Golden Bears competed to the bitter end before falling to the University of Miami before a sellout crowd at California Memorial Stadium -- but not before ESPN host Pat McAfee proclaimed to a national television audience that Berkeley is "one of the best cities in the United States of America." Blue and gold October rolls on with two home tilts later this month. Homecoming happens on Saturday, Oct. 19 vs. North Carolina State, 12:30 p.m. PT kickoff. It will be the first-ever meeting between Cal and NC State on the football field. The following Saturday, Oct. 26, the Oregon State Beavers come to Berkeley for Bay Area Appreciation Day with special guest E-40. Show up and show out to witness history as the Golden Bears enter their inaugural season in the ACC and experience the excitement of classic Cal Football traditions and action! Check out VisitBerkeley.com to plan your Gameday Berkeley festivities. Go Bears!
