Hampton Virginia Aquaplex to host Artistic Swimming Junior Olympics |

USA Artistic Swimming Junior Olympic Championships will take place from June 26-July 3 at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex. USAAS serves as the United States national governing body for the sport and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Attendees can purchase full 8-day passes, 4-day passes, and regular day passes. The 12–15-year-old divisions will be held June 26-29 and the 15–20-year-old divisions are from June 30-July 3. |

Hampton University announces 2023 football schedule |
The Hampton University Pirates will begin the 2023 football season on September 2. The Pirates first game will be an away game against Grambling State University. This year, HU will also face off with their hometown rival, Norfolk State University, on September 9 at Armstrong Stadium. Additionally, the Pirates homecoming game will be against North Carolina A&T University on October 28. Hampton University Athletics was recently named a top five HBCU athletics department by Edvocate, a website advocating learning and higher education in their May 2023 edition.

Jamar Simmons is a sports fanatic with a great sense of our region's competitive landscape. With a background in coaching basketball and education, Simmons is a great addition to the Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau team.
No stranger to Hampton, Simmons has worked at the Boo Williams Sportsplex for several years. In his new role, Simmons will help to book sporting events and conventions, foster relationships with sporting groups, colleges/universities, and the community, and act as a liaison during sporting events.

NBA legend Allen Iverson got his start in Hampton |
Born in Hampton, Virginia, Allen Iverson played 14 seasons in the NBA. Iverson attended Bethel High School, where he was named the state's player of the year in football and basketball his junior year. Iverson won NBA Rookie of the Year Award in 1997, was an 11-time NBA All-Star, and spent most of his career with the Philadelphia 76ers. Iverson regularly dedicates his time and philanthropy to the Hampton community through coaching, mentoring, and support. |
| Catch a game at the Hampton University Convocation Center |
The Hampton University Convocation Center hosts concerts, basketball games and conventions. The Convocation Center has a capacity of 8,200 for concerts and conventions and 7,200 for basketball games. Some of the features of the Convocation Center include a removable basketball floor; two meeting rooms; two dressing rooms; a press room; four locker rooms; state-of-the-art sound system; and more. |
