| Commemorate history at the First Africans in Virginia Marker |
The first Africans in Virginia were a group of "20 and odd" captive enslaved persons originally from modern-day Angola who landed at Old Point Comfort in August 1619. Today, this history is commemorated with a historical marker at Fort Monroe. Soon, visitors will be able to observe a new memorial site that honors the First African Landing at the Fort. |
