Fall is starting to take shape in Big Bear with live music, outdoor art and plenty of ways to enjoy the mountain community. This weekend, catch the final Summer Concert Series performances and the start of the Plein Air Art Competition, then look ahead to a weekend filled with wellness, art, local finds and stargazing.

Bring fall to life with a creative scarecrow, ofrenda, or calacas display! The contest is open to businesses and residents throughout the Big Bear Valley, with more than $10,000 in prizes and VBB partnerships. 

Register by September 23. Displays and public voting run September 30–November 3.

Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest

September 12–13
Big Bear Lake Convention Center

Raise a stein and celebrate the opening weekend of the 56th annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest! This authentic German celebration brings family, friendship and tradition together with live music, German food and beer, contests, dancing and children’s activities.

Saturday entry times begin at 1:00 and 4:00 PM, while Sunday’s Family Fun Day begins at noon.

Big Bear Lake Summer Concert Series - Latin Rock & Funk Night

Saturday, September 12 | 5:30-8:30 PM

The Village at Big Bear Lake

The Big Bear Lake Summer Concert Series wraps up its 2026 season with one more night of free live music in the heart of The Village.

Enjoy Latin rock and funk from Bardo and Mestizo Beat while taking in the mountain-town atmosphere, local dining and family-friendly activities throughout the Village. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

Plein Air Art Competition

September 12-October 10

Throughout the Big Bear Valley

Artists are invited to capture Big Bear's fall landscapes during Visit Big Bear's 3rd Annual Plein Air Art Competition and Festival of Artist Events

Throughout the competition, artists can explore the valley and create their interpretation of Big Bear "en plein air," painting outdoors among the mountains, forests and changing fall scenery. Completed pieces will later be featured in the Competition Gallery, followed by an awards celebration in October

Relax, recharge and reconnect during the Wellness Connected Festival, a two-day gathering focused on mind, body, spirit and community in the mountains of Big Bear.

Explore wellness workshops, meditation, sound healing, movement, live music, local artisans and holistic experiences led by practitioners and educators. General festival admission is free, with additional ticketed workshops available for guests looking to dive deeper into their wellness journey

See Big Bear through the eyes of talented artists during the Artist's Best Work en Plein Air Gallery, part of Visit Big Bear's 3rd Annual Plein Air Art Competition and Festival of Artist Events.

The gallery showcases participating artists' best plein air work and gives visitors a chance to experience artwork inspired by landscapes and scenes painted outdoors. The event also includes a Best of Show award as Big Bear's month-long celebration of outdoor art gets underway

Plein Air Paint-Out in the Village

The Village at Big Bear Lake

Watch art come to life as plein air painters set up their easels throughout The Village and capture Big Bear's mountain-town scenery in real time.

The Paint-Out is part of Big Bear's Plein Air Festival of Artist Events, offering visitors a chance to watch artists work outdoors while strolling through the Village. Stop by throughout the day to see how each artist transforms the sight and atmosphere of Big Bear into a one-of-a-kind piece.

Sidewalk Astronomy

Saturday, September 19 | 7:00-9:00 PM

The Village, near Barrel 33 at 40754 Village Drive

Look to the stars during Sidewalk Astronomy with Big Bear Valley Astronomical Society.

Stop by the Village and peer through telescopes to get a closer look at stars, planets and other sights in the night sky. The experience is an easy addition to an evening in The Village and a great way for visitors of all ages to discover Big Bear after dark. Event is weather permitting.
