July 2020 Catch Some Sun at Hampton Beaches Hampton’s public beaches are open for swimming, sunbathing and playing in the sand, with specific restrictions to keep everyone safe while enjoying fun in the sun. Enjoy Hampton's Fourth of July Traditions from the Comfort of your Home The City of Hampton and Fort Monroe Fourth of July Special will air on the Hampton City Channel, Cox 47 and FIOS 22, at 7 pm on July 4, 2020. Viewers will also be able to view the live web feed. For years, families have enjoyed Fort Monroe's Fourth at the Fort event that included a full day of activities. While there will not be an in-person fireworks show at Fort Monroe this year, the special production will feature Hampton’s great Fourth of July traditions.
Viewers can look forward to a virtual fireworks show, music by the U.S. Army TRADOC Band, flag ceremony by the National Park Service and greetings and well wishes from citizens, organizations and businesses all around Hampton. Gather around with family and friends to enjoy the special that will show some of Fort Monroe’s magical Fireworks presentation. Taylor Visual Arts Center offers Summer Classes beginning July 7 The Charles Taylor Visual Arts Center is one of the most familiar sites in downtown Hampton. Built in 1925 the building served as Hampton’s public library for over 60 years. The building now presents changing exhibitions of the best of local, regional, and national artists, as well as classes for children and adults. Exhibitions change approximately every six weeks.
Despite being closed to the public, The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center is offering onsite and online art classes in plein air painting and pastels. Plein Air Painting with Karen Spaulding will teach participants to paint confidently and quickly to capture their subject matter while on location. Introduction to Pastels with Emily Christoff-Flowers is an online beginner pastel class that shows participants, step-by-step, how to work with soft pastels while drawing the same image. The Virginia Air & Space Center reopened to the public on July 1, 2020. The facility has been closed to the public since March 18th. During that time, air filters have been professionally replaced to hospital-grade filters and the Center has been professionally cleaned and sanitized to make it a safe place upon reopening. The Grey Goose Restaurant Continues to Serve the Community
The Grey Goose is a Downtown Hampton restaurant that has been a part of the community for decades. It is owned by Phillip and Dana Epstein, two Johnson and Wales Graduates, serving lunch, dinner and brunch that is sure to impress. Featuring a full bakery and craft cocktails. Vegan and Vegetarian options as well as nightly dinner specials have made this a locals favorite for over 37 years.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, The Grey Goose continued to serve the Hampton community. The introduction of their family of four meals and date night dinners to go were a hit. As a way to give back, The Grey Goose also partnered with World Central Kitchen to provide meals to vulnerable populations in Hampton. They prepared over 150 individually packaged, fresh meals to help feed Hampton seniors.
